The waitress did not return to our table until after we were done eating. She still had that smirk on her face and used polite words dripping in sarcasm. The final insult, as we were driving home, my wife explained that the kids’ meals came with a desert anyway.

I recommend spending your hard earned money elsewhere. The Cooper family has owned and operated Cooper's Seafood House in Scranton, PA, since 1948, turning it into a city landmark. Its transformation from its humble beginnings as the passenger station of the Erie-Lackawanna Train Station is astonishing. The establishment now boasts a full-sized pirate ship that hosts the ship pub and the lighthouse bar, the tiki bar deck, the whale room, the train room, and the exclusive coral room. Akin to the Eiffel Tower is a must-visit in Paris, Cooper's Seafood House is an unmissable destination for anyone visiting Scranton.

My wife and I both started taking the tails off the shrimp so our kids wouldn’t choke on them. The Shrimp burned our fingers because they were so incredibly hot. It definitely would have burned my 2 year olds lips if I gave it to him. Meanwhile our adult meals were taking forever.

Kids menu,

We love food, lots of different food, just like you, but fresh fish is our specialty and we’re serving up something incredible every day. Our menu changes frequently so that our chefs may bring you the very best of their creations. Occasionally, this may mean some items listed here are temporarily unavailable or that pricing varies. If a specific item is important to you, please contact us before visiting. Especially when it's free on your birthday.

If only I could take you back 10 years to an exceptional restaurant with terrific food that was reasonably priced, a great atmosphere, and a courtious waitstaff. As it stands today, Cooper's has gone from a great place to something that should be put out of it's misery. The food comes two ways, extremely raw or way overcooked, either way, you'll be paying a good chunk of change for something you wouldn't feed your pet . The atmosphere has basically disappeared and the waitstaff seems to be permanently visited by Aunt Flo. The only reason to visit Cooper's now is for the decor.

By the time our meals were served, the kids were almost done, which meant we had to entertain our kids while we tried to eat. When she served the adult meals, the server asked us if everything was okay. I told her how incredibly hot the kids’ meals were. She smirked and explained to me that seafood had to be cooked to a certain temperature.

I immediately explained to her that the food should also be served at a temperature that is safe to eat. If my 2 year old ate the food, he’d be in serious pain. The server thought this was funny and she started to laugh.

We just had the worst most inconsiderate service imaginable. My wife and I took our two boys (ages 2 & 5) to dinner at Coopers in Scranton. My wife got the boys kids meals of fried shrimp and French fries.

In the early to mid-1900s, as the need for railroads became less and less, the original Erie-Lackawanna Station was sold and made into a restaurant.

I would implore all parents to stay away from Coopers seafood house, especially if you don’t find toddler safety to be a laughing matter. Cooper's offers more than just dining; it's an immersive experience. The establishment's reputation precedes itself, consistently ranking among the top 100 independently owned restaurants in the U.S. Coopers is perfect for great food and fine drinks. The new outside deck is great to eat (a lighter menu) and enjoy some entertainment and drinks. The only reason it doesn't rate 5 of 5 is the beer prices are too high.

Our server said ours would be right out. The kids’ meals still had the tail on the shrimp, which isn’t a big deal. Otherwise, I would not have known how scalding hot the meals were.

The family has dinned there for years however went went as a group , funeral, and it was not good. We were told we would have a private room, we were given a room with booths were every one was separated. The food was sub -good and we had one waitress for over 20 people which resulted in slow service and warm food. As former patrons we were all disapointed. When compared to other restaurants, Cooper's Seafood House is moderate.

There's Someone Inside Your House Ending: How Killer Reveal Changed

there someone inside your house

In "There's Someone Inside Your House," one of the most prominent red herrings is Makani's secret fling and the class outsider Ollie Larsson (Théodore Pellerin), who most of Makani's friends believe is the killer. Of course, Ollie is actually not the killer; instead, it's someone who was in plain sight all along. Based on the young adult horror novel of the same name, "There's Someone Inside Your House" stars Sydney Park as Makani Young, a high-school transfer student who moves from her home in Hawaii to live with her grandmother in a much more rural community. A year after the move, as Makani adjusts to her new school and makes friends, some of her fellow classmates are found brutally murdered by a killer who wears a mask identical to each victim's own face. Not that Brice and screenwriter Henry Gayden (“Shazam!”) don’t have a fine needle to thread.

Director

It’s a crazy birth story because I swallowed my mother’s umbilical cord. So when I was born through a C-section, I was not crying and I was actually dead. So they had to smack my back and get all of the stuff out of me… There’s more to the birth story, but Halloween is the day. (Laughs.) It was the scariest day of my mom’s life, as she always likes to remind me. Maybe this is a product of the movie’s nature as an adaptation, but there’s never really a moment in “There’s Someone Inside Your House” that suggests its protagonists are real enough to be worth rooting for. They talk a lot about hiding their true selves from each other, but often don’t seem human enough to be credibly shallow.

There's nothing inside this movie.

there someone inside your house

With plenty of shocking revelations and twists, "There's Someone Inside Your House" keeps you on your toes until the very end, and the murderer's identity is probably one you won't see coming. One moment was at the table read for the first episode I did [season three, episode two, “Knighttime”]. Drew Barrymore was walking around the table and saying hi to everybody and hugging everybody. And then she hugged me and was like, “Oh my gosh, you are so sexy.” And then she grabbed me and embraced me.

How Parker Finn's 'Smile' Went From Streaming to Theatrical in a Single Night

Right down to the final reveal -- which is lazy, empty, and disappointing. At times, it feels like the film's trying to say something about "cancel culture," but once people who made genuine mistakes are lumped together with actual abusers and hate-mongers, the point dissolves into nothing. These components all feel perfunctory, like Brice and Gayden checking boxes off a list of what they think Gen-Z teenagers will respond to.

Jackson’s transgression is somehow not the main focus of the movie, though openly gay quarterback Caleb (Burkely Duffield) does score a touchdown while everyone else looks at their phones. There's Someone Inside Your House tries to make you think it's got a catchy, viable gimmick when in reality it's empty and unsatisfying. As soon as it starts to lay down tracks, and head in a certain direction, it derails and scraps the story for something drastically different or confusingly contradictory.

Ollie is brought into custody but then released. Makani finds herself left alone in the school building, after the rest of the school leaves for a field trip to the Sanford family corn maze, and Makani misses the bus. When she sees Ollie’s car pull up, she flees and runs into her friend Caleb in the hallway. Before she can fill him in, Caleb is stabbed with a sword by the killer. At the same time, Ollie is running into the building, yelling Makani’s name to warn her—meaning the killer is not Ollie. Based on the 2017 book by Stephanie Perkins of the same name, There’s Someone Inside Your House was adapted for the screen by Henry Gayden and directed by Patrick Brice.

With the town reeling, the next then kill solidifies the fact that the murderer is going after people with dark secrets. Specifically, secrets about the victims being purposefully awful people. At the corn maze, the killer sets fire to the maze with the football team inside, so Makani and her friends drive into the flames to help the football players escape. Darby and Alex help the players find their way out, while Ollie and Makani try to find Zach. They ultimately confront the killer, now wearing Skipper's face, who kills Skipper before revealing himself to be Zach. He explains to Makani that he killed everyone because he wanted to expose everyone's secrets in revenge for the bullying he endured for being the rich son of Skipper, whom the town disliked for making billions by selling and buying farms.

There's Someone Inside Your House is a wholly crummy affair with no teeth, no point, and no heart. There’s obvious business sense behind the cyclical resurgence of the teen slasher, age-old formula cheaply reproduced by barely-paid no-names aimed at an easily devalued and underestimated younger audience. What’s less obvious is why in the age of low-stakes streaming, it’s taken this long for them to return from the dead once again. But after the success of 2017’s Happy Death Day and 2018’s record-breaking Halloween, we’re now in the middle of a full-blooded renaissance. A staple of slasher and murder-mystery films is the red herring, which seemingly leads you toward the killer, but in actuality distracts you from the truth.

According to Makani, she was a cheerleader at her old school, and the younger girls were forced to attend a bonfire and drink until they were on the verge of blacking out. At one point, one of the other cheerleaders named Jasmine (Tally Rodin) pushed Makani drunkenly, and an equally-inebriated Makani pushed back — only Jasmine accidentally fell into the fire and was severely burned. Makani was charged and went to trial, but was later acquitted, and her parents sent her to live in Nebraska to start over. Like other thrilling slashers, "There's Someone Inside Your House" follows Sydney as she and her surviving friends try to piece together the mystery before it's too late.

From the killer's themed costume to the action set pieces to the actual reason the killer is killing, There's Someone Inside Your House is a haze of slasher malaise. It's also wildly inconsistent with its gimmick, messaging, and tone, wanting to be a Scream-style meta mystery, a Heathers-style high school satire, and a dramatic redemption story all at once. It's so algorithmically thrown together that even the titular premise/promise -- of someone being in someone's house -- doesn't even hold for more than one kill.

The death scenes are eye-openingly gory yet annoyingly rushed and entirely, maddeningly suspense-free. The awkward tonal veering between comedy and horror marks the film out as less Scream and more whimper (the mask designs are also so low-rent that we can never really tell who they are supposed to represent). Halloween has always been a special day for Sydney Park, but this year’s celebration was extra meaningful. Park was not only born on Halloween, but now, she’s a full-fledged scream queen thanks to her teen slasher film, There’s Someone Inside Your House, which Netflix released a few weeks ago as part of its Halloween programming. Produced by Shawn Levy and James Wan, Park wrapped the Patrick Brice-directed film in October 2019, but returned to set in August 2020 to reshoot a few scenes, including the reveal of the masked killer. That’s a good enough prompt for a horror movie, especially one concerned with adolescent stuff like drugs, daddy issues, and dating.

When students at Osbourne High are killed off one by one by a Malevolent Masked Man hellbent on exposing their lies, she has to protect herself and her secrets. Zach explains in his little villain monologue that his intention was to teach his father (who is also a Nazi?) a lesson. Zach stabs Ollie and explains that he’s not a sociopath, and doesn’t want to feel ashamed just because he was born to privilege. Then he also talks a bit about how everyone is wearing fake faces, hence the whole mask thing. Oh, and also, he is going to frame Makani for everything, which is why he handed her the sword earlier.

It meant that Netflix was on board and wanted us to put our best foot forward. They flew us out to Vancouver again, which was amazing. It was so weird, too, because we had to quarantine for two weeks, but the rewrites made sense. He took Netflix’s notes and was like, “Okay, here’s what we’re going to do. This is so much better.” And I think it worked out.

Part of the killer's modus operandi is revealing their victim's secrets before they're killed. For example, one of the victims is a violent homophobe, and another is a secret white supremacist. With this in mind, it makes sense for viewers to assume the perpetrator is seeking revenge from people who'd hurt them in the past. As with nearly every other teen-centric slasher this side of “Scream,” “There’s Someone Inside Your House” takes great pains to avoid the unpardonable sin of sincerity — at least at first. The film’s tongue is planted firmly in its cheek, its characters occasionally act as though they know they’re in a scary movie, and you can’t tell whether you’re supposed to cringe or cheer when yet another teen is offed. ” the doomed quarterback asks moments before his demise, “because I can Venmo you, like, right now.” It’s a funny line, as are many others here, but in trying to be humorous and horrifying at the same time the film is sometimes neither.

His brother is a cop, and he had him run a background check on her. New slasher flick There's Someone Inside Your House is an unfocused, unsatisfying teenage body dropper that feels like a patchwork poser compared to other, better horror mysteries. It dresses itself up in a dozen gimmicks to make it seem like more than a copycat of superior projects, but just about everything going on here is underwhelming to a frustrating degree. First of all, thank you so much for saying that. I absolutely adored Santa Clarita Diet before I got the audition, and then when I did, I was like, “Holy fuck, this is amazing.” And everybody was so cool.

What's the best high school horror movie?

I shrug in the general direction of the ending, but the rest of it generates enough narrative traction to maintain our interest. And for those of you who are here for the kills, well, the kills are damn killy, and even if they’re not innovative — knife meets body; repeat — for people who want kills, the movie is better than one without kills at all. Admittedly, There's Someone Inside Your House is a good title for a film looking to play around with tropes and get a bit winky and clever with set pieces.

I was like, “Fuck, am I going to seem unprofessional if I tell them that I showed up hungover? ” (Laughs.) And so I went to this crazy studio so far out; it’s like an hour away. So I was around all of these weird scans, and I was like, “Guys, I’m feeling like shit.” So they had a banana and a coffee mug for me. We’re going to get your face.” So everybody got 3D scanned, and then our special effects and makeup departments ended up making multiples of each character’s mask.

In "There's Someone Inside Your House," it appears that everyone has deep, dark secrets, including those who you'd least expect. Thankfully, Makani's friends reassure her that her mistake doesn't define her as a person, and we see a glimmer of hope for redemption in Makani's future. Makani Young (Sydney Park) is a high school student with a secret.

‘There’s Someone Inside Your House’ Review: Netflix Slasher Attempts to Put a New Face on Fear

And the streaming service’s latest, There’s Someone Inside Your House, is similarly indebted to films like Black Christmas, Haze, and I Know What You Did Last Summer, which it explicitly references. There is one creepy conceit in There’s Someone Inside Your House, but that one genuinely spooky detail can’t counter the overall familiarity. There’s Someone Inside Your House is intermittently effective, but ultimately unremarkable, and it feels like a product of its time in disappointing ways.

(Eh — probably a stretch.) Or maybe it’s just funny to watch a hooded menace gut a kid outed as the anonymous host of a grotesque white supremacist podcast. The Walking Dead's Sydney Park stars as Makani, a girl who's recently moved to town, escaping a recent, tragic event who, like everyone else, becomes the target of this masked assailant because... Again though, Makani, and her band of outcast friends, are apparently just as vulnerable as the killer's first two victims, who are a nasty prejudiced people. And all the while the film plays the Red Herring shell game to the point where the killer really can't be anyone except the one person that doesn't make any damn sense. Number one, she had a summer fling with the town’s resident bad boy weirdo, Ollie (Théodore Pellerin), whom everyone suspects to be the killer.

THERE’S SOMEONE INSIDE YOUR HOUSE: STREAM IT OR SKIP IT?

But those slasher sequences lack the propulsive energy and over-the-top grotesquerie needed to jolt There’s Someone Inside Your House to life. There are bursts of blood from sliced-open tendons, torsos, and throats, but the artificiality of that candy-red gore extends to the whole contrived movie. The graduating class at Osborne High is being targeted by a masked assailant, intent on exposing the darkest secret of each victim, and only a group of misfit outsiders can stop the killings... Alex is convinced the killer is Ollie (Theodore Pellerin), the outcast of outcasts who gives her bad vibes — “Yeah, you, all-in-black school-shooter style icon,” she snipes — but nobody knows that he and Makani have been secretly doing a lot more than just kissing.

While the cast of characters is strong, and the setup is fun, the plot ultimately leaves something to be desired. Luckily, for those who got lost in the weeds in this story, Decider is here to help. Yes, there's a certain formula that has, and still can, work for the teen slasher genre. But that also means it can easily enough get thrown together in a half-hearted manner for a movie that only seems to care about checking various genre boxes for the sake of Netflix's "Top Picks for You" column than delivering something fresh and fun. This 1980s-inspired slasher movie might not break any new ground, but it’s less fixated on the past than other horror films of late. I would say no because I grew up doing sitcoms.

With the arrival of Zack Snyder's latest Rebel Moon chapter on Netflix, we rank every one of the director's films—from bad to, well, less bad—by Metascore. A likable cast and strong set pieces give There's Someone Inside Your House a lift, but they're outweighed by its messily misguided story. We’re back to the bottom shelf of Netflix again with this, aesthetically drab with dialogue and performances not far behind.

That's right, the gimmick isn't even the gimmick. Also, the unspoken rule that the first two kills establish -- that the local bogeyman is going after people who are secretly bad people -- gets entirely demolished by the third kill when the target is a decent person. And if you're wondering why there's such a whopping irregularity there there, it's because the entire movie is unstable.

Netflix has added a new slasher horror film to its queue just in time for Halloween! Based on the 2017 novel by Stephanie Perkins, There's Someone Inside Your House centers on the graduating class at Osborne High, who are being stalked by a killer hellbent on exposing their darkest secrets and terrorizing them while wearing masks of their faces. The film stars Sydney Park, Théodore Pellerin, Asjha Cooper, Dale Whibley, Jesse LaTourette, Diego Josef, Burkely Duffield, Sarah Dugdale, William MacDonald, Andrew Dunbar, and Markian Tarasiuk. Despite the movie's terrifying premise, the cast all seem to have formed a real bond, celebrating birthdays, going out for dinners, and just having a whole lot of fun together. See for yourself in the pictures ahead and make sure to check out There's Someone Inside Your House, which is streaming on Netflix now. Set in a rural Nebraska town, the film kicks off with a high school football star being killed in his own home (so the title holds, at first).

That superficiality means that There’s Someone Inside Your House has to offer something unique in the slasher department to set itself apart, and results are uneven there, too. In an unnerving touch, the killer wears a 3D-printed copy of their latest victim’s face. That costuming choice underscores the killer’s ideology that each of the victims deserves death for their hypocrisy.

I think you are hysterical.” And I thought, “This is insane. Drew is an icon and here she is calling me sexy.” So I just about shit myself. And there was another moment where I walked out of my trailer to go to set, and she came out in her robe and slippers. Yes, we had a couple other scenes that we ended up reshooting as well — scenes that Netflix was very specific about — so we were thankful for it.

The killer then takes off their mask and reveals himself to be Zach all along. Apparently he was fed up with being made to feel guilty for being a privileged white man, and is also sick of people hiding their truest selves. The next day, Zach's rich father, Skipper, holds a corn maze next to the school. Darby messages Makani that Ollie has been released by his brother just as his car pulls up to the school parking lot. Makani runs inside to avoid him, and she bumps into Caleb, who is then stabbed by the killer for trying to hide his homosexuality.

You don’t need supplemental lighting if your greenhouse is sited in full sun. You can use shade cloth to block the direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day. Combined with ventilation, this can lower the interior temperature significantly.

The number of public charging points installed globally was up 40% in 2023 relative to 2022, and growth for fast chargers outpaced that of slower ones. However, to meet a level of electric vehicle deployment in line with the pledges made by governments, charging networks need to grow sixfold by 2035.

In many parts of Latin America, apartments aren’t painted in painfully neutral colors. This is one of those green exterior house paint colors that will definitely make a building stand out.

The original patrons lived in the house until death, and it was continually passed down through the Gamble family until 1966, when it was almost sold to a family who intended to paint the interior teak and mahogany woodwork white. They immediately realized the artistic and architectural importance of this home and deeded it to the city of Pasadena in a joint agreement with the University of Southern California Department of Architecture. Tours are offered now, as the Gamble House is both a museum and a National Historic Landmark. "An architect is a builder employing the process of art," Charles Greene once wrote. This is proven to be their governing belief, not only in the final product but also throughout the process. The brothers were known to veer from the initial blueprints, showing that they were enthralled with transition and process, the blueprints as a point of departure rather than a set of instructions.

The family moved in immediately, and the house and all of it's specially-designed furnishings were officially finished in 1910. Together they attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) School of Architecture (Cambridge) and left without graduating in 1891. In 1893 they joined their parents in Pasadena (Calif.), where, in 1894, the brothers established a partnership. The Greenes experimented in various styles but continually sought more direct, simple architectural forms to suit southern California. Their solution was the bungalow, with its interpenetration of interior and exterior space, emphasizing close contact with nature and the use of local materials and crafts. As we were walking through the house, it was clear that the materials the Greenes used came from multiple surprising sources.

Hamrick and other landlord representatives have argued that the benchmarking energy audits alone cost a single building into the tens of thousands of dollars or more. Required retrofits of appliances, windows and other features in a building just a few stories tall immediately runs into the millions of dollars, Hamrick said. CFCs, used mostly as refrigerants, are chemicals that were developed in the late 19th century and came into wide use in the mid-20th century.

If all that seems like a lot of work, you could just go with a Sunbubble Greenhouse, which is a dome-shaped tent with clear walls that gives you nine feet in diameter to work with. The strong ties to the outdoors are brought to the interior as well, through flowers and trees which are engraved in the windows, doors and lanterns. Indigenous Japanese shapes appear throughout the house, in the contour of the dining room table, the cloud lift in the transom bar of each window, the recessed handles on drawers and the ebony frame of the master bedroom furniture.

What Is a Greenhouse?

While demand remained largely concentrated in China, Europe and the United States, growth also picked up in some emerging markets such as Viet Nam and Thailand, where electric cars accounted for 15% and 10%, respectively, of all cars sold. In 2024, electric cars sales in China are projected to leap to about 10 million, accounting for about 45% of all car sales in the country. By using electricity to split water into its two elements, the device, a test model called an electrolyzer, produces hydrogen, a carbon-free gas that could help power mills like the one in Duisburg. If adopted widely, the devices could help clean up heavy industry, such as steel-making, in Germany and elsewhere. A family-owned greenhouse, Lindsley’s Greenhouse was established in 1955 and has been growing their own plants and providing high-quality plants for over 65 years. Normally, the greenhouse effect keeps the earth just warm enough to sustain life.

Building owners have spent the time since then measuring and reporting their “benchmark” emissions that will set the starting line for their required cuts. They can call it ‘small emissions,’ but it’s not according to Colorado’s Greenhouse Gas Inventory — it’s one of Colorado’s top climate pollution sectors,” Sierra Club spokesperson Noah Rott said. Environmental groups that backed both the Denver and state of Colorado building efficiency standards said Wednesday the building owners and the oil and gas trade groups are on the wrong side of the cleanup debate. In Colorado and other states, oil and gas interests have pushed back against the electrification movement by proposing ballot issues barring governments from in effect “choosing” electric over natural gas fuel through rulemaking.

This can be as simple as four pieces of treated lumber or some sunken bricks. An unlevel surface will, over time, compromise the integrity of the greenhouse. Read our guide to growing herbs in a greenhouse for all you need to know. You can use your greenhouse during the winter even if you don’t have a heating system. Of course, some do better outside or are so cold-hardy that it’s almost a waste of space to put them in a greenhouse.

The Proctor and Gamble family found the perfect fit when they hired the Greenes. Since their father was a respiratory physician, the brothers also believed in the importance of living a healthy lifestyle full of circulating air and sunshine. They incorporating this theory into each of the houses they designed in their careers. As teenagers, the brothers studied at the Manual Training School of Washington University in St. Louis, where they studied metal- and woodworking and graduated in 1887–1888.

The corrugated plastic moderates the light intensity, trapping heat while still allowing enough light to enter for the plants to thrive. One of the smaller options could grow enough food for one or two people to supplement their diet. It’s perfect if you just have a few plants you want to grow and aren’t ready to commit to a permanent structure.

The Splendor of Greene and Greene Arts & Culture

When the Air Quality Control Commission debated statewide rules last summer, staff said the rules would impact more than 8,000 buildings across Colorado. The rules target cuts of building-related greenhouse gas emissions of 7% by 2026 and 20% by 2030. It all began when David and Mary Gamble of the Proctor and Gamble family packed up their belongings and moved from Ohio to sunny California in 1893. At the time, many families from booming cities in the Midwest and on the East Coast were migrating to California in the hopes of a cleaner, warmer, healthier lifestyle. Many of them settled in Southern California and a large group set up camp in Pasadena. In addition to finalizing these rules, EPA has opened a non-regulatory docket and issued framing questions to gather input about a comprehensive approach to reduce GHG emissions from the entire fleet of existing gas combustion turbines in the power sector.

Of course, you don’t have to spend a fortune building a dream structure. A sloped roof sheds water and is better angled to let light in than a flat roof. These structures might have heating, roof ventilation, and other amenities, or they might be constructed simply with just a single door to enter and exit through.

Altadena’s Greene and Greene Houses

The brothers were inspired by the concept of total design, or gesamtkunstwerk, which was stressed in the German-designed rooms at the 1904 Louisiana Purchase International Exposition in St. Louis. When they met David and Mary Gamble, they already had developed a list of rich couples who commissioned them to design their houses, with generous budgets and relatively free reign. The handful of elaborate houses that the Greene brothers built in Pasadena from 1904 to 1911 feature broad, overhanging eaves, prominent sleeping porches, and a frank utilization of wooden members (“sticks”) for exterior decorative effect.

Global EV Outlook 2024

Overhead watering is often the cheapest irrigation method, but it’s indiscriminate and can promote fungal issues. I’m always a proponent of watering at soil level using options like drip irrigation because that’s the best way to avoid diseases, but capillary mats that bring up water from below are excellent, too. But ceiling-mounted options free up your floor space and are better suited to move the air throughout the space.

The standards are designed to work with the power sector’s planning processes, providing compliance timelines that enable power companies to plan in advance to meet electricity demand while reducing dangerous pollution. Since climate change greatly affects every issue we face today, understanding the effect of greenhouse gas emissions on our economies and our environment is crucial. Understanding which countries, industries, and companies are the top greenhouse gas emitters can help policymakers decide where to focus their attention as they tackle issues such as global trade, job growth, energy independence, environmental safety regulations, and more. Since the Industrial Revolution, rising emissions of greenhouse gases—including carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and others—have been the driving force behind climate change. Greenhouse effect, a warming of Earth’s surface and troposphere (the lowest layer of the atmosphere) caused by the presence of water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane, and certain other gases in the air. Of those gases, known as greenhouse gases, water vapour has the largest effect.

At the beginning, you might envision yourself just growing a handful of herbs, some greens, and a few different brassicas in a small structure. Veikous makes an eight-by-14-foot greenhouse with dual locking doors and an adjustable roof vent. The steel and aluminum frame is covered with panels that let in 90 percent of sunlight and it features a swinging door that is magnetized to stay shut. The structures are usually made out of glass or clear plastic supported by a timber, metal, or brick framing to allow sun to enter while protecting the plants inside from the elements. It’s inevitable that you are going to make some mistakes with your greenhouse.

Inactive coal ash surface impoundments at inactive facilities, referred to as “legacy CCR surface impoundments,” are more likely to be unlined and unmonitored, making them more prone to leaks and structural problems than units at facilities that are currently in service. EPA analysis shows the final rule will reduce existing disproportionate and adverse effects on communities with environmental justice concerns. The agency is finalizing regulations that require the safe management of coal ash at inactive surface impoundments at inactive power plants and historical coal ash disposal areas. Some greenhouse gases come from natural sources, for example, evaporation adds water vapor to the atmosphere.

Investing in Nature with High-Quality Carbon Removal Projects

You can drape shade cloth over the top of the structure or build it into the ceiling to be unfurled when necessary. If your building is on a foundation, you can simply use that or put rubber mats on top of the flooring. If I sound like I’m really selling the rubber mats idea, it’s because that’s what I prefer. Greenhouses can rapidly become mucky, muddy messes as you spill soil, spray everything with water, and track mud in from outside. You can also extend the foundation larger than the footprint of the building if you’d like to place pots, shelves, or furniture outside of the structure. Smaller, lighter structures don’t necessarily need one, though it will help.

Concrete, stone, brick, wood, or compacted sand can create a solid, long-lasting surface for your building to stand on. If you experience serious storms in your area, you’ll need to anchor the greenhouse into the ground, not just onto the wood. Leveling is optional if you have a light, temporary, or small structure like the bubble design we discussed above, but it’s non-negotiable with larger structures. If you love your succulents, but you live somewhere outside of their preferred climate, your greenhouse will be invaluable.

Some scientists also worry that tropical diseases will expand their ranges into what are now more temperate regions if the temperatures of those areas increase. Millions more people in countries like Bolivia, Peru, and India depend on glacial meltwater for drinking, irrigation, and hydroelectric power. According to scientists, the average temperature of Earth would drop from 14˚C (57˚F) to as low as –18˚C (–0.4˚F), without the greenhouse effect.

“Not only do the pieces not look right outside of their house, they don’t even look right out of their room,’ says Bosley. Since the furnishings are widely dispersed, Mallek and Bosley had to do some creative detective work to track them down. “There’s a table lamp from the Blacker House living room where one person owns the base and another person owns the shade,” he explains. “We’ve been able to bring them back together for this show.” In another act of ambitious restoration, the curators have had part of the Arturo Bandini House, a 1903 Pasadena residence that was demolished a half-century ago, reconstructed for the exhibition. The drawings of the house were completed in February of 1908, the site ground-broken in March, and ten months later the house was completed and the first custom-built piece of furniture delivered.

At the same time, policy support and careful planning are essential to make sure greater demand for electricity from charging does not overstretch electricity grids. In China, more than 60% of electric cars sold in 2023 were already less expensive to buy than their conventional equivalents. However, in Europe and the United States, the purchase prices for cars with internal combustion engines remained cheaper on average, though intensifying market competition and improving battery technologies are expected to reduce prices in the coming years.

Trellises, shelves, and hanging baskets give you the ability to grow more plants in the same square footage. Speaking of shelving, vertical growing is a clever way to expand your growing capabilities. They provide foot relief, drain well, can be hosed off, and are fairly affordable.

Environmental Protection Agency announced a suite of final rules to reduce pollution from fossil fuel-fired power plants in order to protect all communities from pollution and improve public health without disrupting the delivery of reliable electricity. EPA projects the final rule will reduce emissions of mercury and non-mercury metal HAPs, such as nickel, arsenic, and lead. Controlling these emissions from power plants improves public health for all Americans by reducing the risk of fatal heart attacks, cancer, developmental delays in children, and also reduces adverse environmental impacts. The final rule will also result in substantial co-benefits, including reductions in emissions of fine particulate matter (“soot”), sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and carbon dioxide nationwide. These public health improvements are especially important for children and communities with environmental justice concerns and others who regularly consume fish that accumulate high levels of pollutants from power plants. The standard also requires states to provide transparent data on compliance pathways and timelines through the state planning process, ensuring that workers and communities have the best-available information to plan for changes in the sector.
